Vaaruna ("we", "us", or "our") operates the Vaaruna mobile application ("App") and associated website at vaaruna.in ("Site"). This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and the rights you have over your data.
We are committed to handling your data responsibly, transparently, and in accordance with applicable Indian law — including the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act). Please read this policy carefully. By using Vaaruna, you agree to the practices described here.
When you sign in with Google, we receive:
We do not receive your Google password. Authentication is handled entirely by Google Sign-In.
We collect a device identifier (Android ID or equivalent device-level ID) when you install and first open Vaaruna. This identifier is used solely for fraud prevention — specifically, to enforce the "one vote per poll per device" rule that is central to Vaaruna's integrity. It is not used for advertising, tracking, or any purpose other than duplicate-vote prevention.
We record your votes on polls — which polls you voted on, which option you selected, and when. This data powers your Civic Score, Rewards Score, rank progression, and leaderboard position. Your voting history is private by default; you control whether any of it is shown publicly through your Privacy Settings.
If you reach a cash-reward tier and choose to claim a reward, we collect:
This information is collected at the time of claiming and is used solely to transfer the prize money to you. It is stored with encryption and deleted after the transfer is confirmed, unless you save it for future use.
If you purchase a Vote Pack, payment is processed by Google Play. We receive a transaction confirmation and the pack type/amount — we never see or store your card or bank details. Google Play's privacy policy governs their handling of your payment data.
The Vaaruna app uses Google AdMob to serve ads in Rewards Mode (watch-an-ad-for-votes feature). AdMob may collect and use your advertising identifier (Android Advertising ID / AAID) to serve relevant ads. You can reset or opt out of personalised ads in your device's Settings. AdMob's data use is governed by Google's privacy policy.
We may collect anonymous usage analytics (screens visited, features used, session length) and crash reports to improve the App. This data is aggregated and not linked to your identity.
Under the DPDP Act, 2023, we process your personal data on the following bases:
Your data is stored on Supabase — a cloud database platform with encryption at rest (AES-256) and in transit (TLS 1.2+). Our Supabase infrastructure is hosted in a secure environment with access controls, audit logs, and regular security reviews.
We implement row-level security policies so that users can only access their own data. Administrative access is limited to authorised personnel and protected by multi-factor authentication.
While we take commercially reasonable measures to protect your data, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password for your Google account.
Vaaruna uses the following third-party services, each governed by their own privacy policies:
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any other third parties for their own marketing or commercial purposes.
We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account:
Under the DPDP Act, 2023, and as a Vaaruna user, you have the right to:
Vaaruna is not intended for users under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors. If you believe a minor has created an account, please contact us at support@vaaruna.app and we will promptly delete the account and associated data.
Users between 13 and 18 may use Vaaruna with verifiable parental or guardian consent, as permitted under the DPDP Act.
The Vaaruna mobile app does not use browser cookies. Our website (vaaruna.in) may use essential cookies for functionality (such as remembering your session). We do not use tracking cookies or third-party analytics cookies on the website.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you through the App or via the email address associated with your account. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of Vaaruna after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
